Jessica Barr is the creative director of the multiple salon brand The Blowdry Boutique and one of the industry's most creative artists. As one of the most in-demand hair stylists in Sydney's Eastern suburbs, Barr boasts an extensive portfolio of clients that includes celebrities such as Jade Jagger, Sarah Murdoch, Jennifer Hawkins and Tara Moss.

In her roles as hair director, Barr has designed runway looks for a roster of international design houses and designers, including Chanel, and her signature dramatic and flamboyant aesthetic has appeared in a number of editorials and covers for magazines such as Vogue, Grazia, Madison, Russh and Oyster.

Barr began her career working as an assistant for a hairdressing chain in the historic New South Wales highlands in 2001. On moving to Sydney in 2003, the young hairstylist secured a position at the award winning boutique salon Joh Bailey, before landing a cadetship with the master stylist Bailey himself, eventually becoming a full time member of his team in Double Bay.

Six intense years followed, during which time Barr assisted the legendary hair stylist on shoots and up to 15 shows at the local Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia. It was an arduous but rewarding time, says Barr, recalling a particular Australian fashion week in May 2004 when two of the major shows of the week were one day apart: Morrissey and Wayne Cooper.

"I learned a lot about myself during that period, and the industry. Back then there was a great importance on cosmetic, perfectly manicured hair. Nowadays, there's more warmth and texture, more human error which makes for great photographs."

In 2008 Barr set about designing her own brand of styling, a dedicated, express luxury blowdry experience, The Blowdry Boutique. Twelve months after opening her flagship in Double Bay, Barr expanded the flourishing business model to Sydney's lower North shore, adding the leafy Sydney suburb of Mosman to her portfolio.
